Hew Locke (British, b. 1959) is a London-based artist working in different media, who also spent a formative period in Georgetown, Guyana. His sculptural installation Gravesend (2019) is presently on view at the Currier Museum of Art, displayed as part of its Stories of the Sea exhibition. The work recently entered the museum’s permanent collection.

On the occasion of Locke’s forthcoming exhibition at the Institute of Contemporary Art (ICA) in Boston, the artist will give a public talk at the Currier on May 19, focusing on the artwork currently on display. He will also discuss The Procession, the large installation originally commissioned by Tate Britain in London that will be unveiled at the ICA, as well as his recent facade commission at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and Armada, a large installation closely connected to the Currier’s piece presently exhibited at the Royal Academy of Arts in his home city.
